My Thoughts - Puppy and Dog Training

As a dog training instructor, my goal is to be the best instructor I can possibly be, I will always go above and beyond your expectations. I try to give the best support and learning experience possible for every owner that decides to come along to training with their puppy or dog.

I enjoy working with people as well as dogs, I’m always interested in the expectations and hopes that owners have and I would love to help you by finding the best training method for your individual dog. My aim is for you to have a well-trained, social, happy, family dog.

Good dog training is not magic, every one of us that shares their home with a puppy, dog or rescue dog needs to learn how to support and encourage our pet dog to become a well mannered dog of the future. Training is an important part of every relationship between dog and owner.

I’ve met some great owners and I’ve enjoyed helping them to understand their dog better. I also value the opportunity to further my own understanding of the truly unique partnerships between family members and their dogs today.

About Me

My passion and love for all animals stems from my childhood, as far back as I can remember. My dream like so many young people was to work with animals when I grew up and finally left school, particularly dogs. However after leaving school I attended a pre-nursing course at college.

I then met my husband, we made a home together and I became a stay at home mum for a number of years. Once my children started senior school I took part time employment at North Tees Hospital as a health care assistant. The experience and skills learned over the following 10 years assisting doctors and supporting patients has given the ability to understand people as individuals. This has proved invaluable with much of the work I do today.

Where We Started

I started on my route to becoming a dog trainer by taking my first Weimaraner dog to an obedience club in Redcar for training. After training her to be a well mannered dog in the home I then progressed to competing with some success in the breed ring, obedience and agility. One evening after finishing training I was approached by the chairman of the training club to consider becoming an instructor.

I remained at the club as an instructor for a number of years and quickly had multiple classes to run. I quickly learned how to lesson plan and impart practical knowledge suited to the individual personalities in the class. Unfortunately the club decided to move to a different venue further afield so I began to look for a closer venue for dog training.

In 1999 I found a training hall in Stockton that I was able to hire for 3 nights a week. I began puppy and adult socialising classes from this venue and named the establishment Vale Good Companion Training School and we are still running to this day!

“I believe in part my greatest teachers have been the dogs I have been fortunate enough to share my home with, plus the many owner and dog partnerships I have met who have chosen to attend my training classes over the past 20+ years” – Kay
